Biography

Rua Alshaheen is an assistant professor at the College of Architecture at Kuwait University. She has worked as an architect in her private studio, operated on the renovation of historic buildings in the governmental sector, and is currently teaching undergraduate and graduate architecture students.

She holds a PhD in Design, Environment, and the Arts from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, where she focused on multispecies urbanism and animal imaginaries. She has produced several modern art installations and published two graphic novels.

Her research interests explore the relationship between design and the environment, the conception of non-human architecture and animal architecture, the role of urban interventions, the analysis of artificial environments, and the creation of new design policy frameworks.
